Check out our volunteer opportunities. We need YOU, year round, to make Nolose great!
PEOPLE OF COLOR COMMITTEE (2 hours/month)
Do you want to be part of the continued growth and development of diversity in Nolose? The People of Color (POC) Committee works to make Nolose a place that is inclusive and centers the voices of fat queer and trans people of color. This includes overseeing POC-only space and programing at Nolose conferences, having a voice in the collection and distribution of POC scholarships, conducting outreach, and recruiting POC into organizational leadership positions. This group is open to self-identified people of color only. If you would like to join this committee please send an email to info at nolose dot com.
OUTREACH COORDINATORS (1-5 hours/month)
Outreach volunteers aim to engage and expand the Nolose community by forging meaningful connections with individuals and organizations within and beyond fat activist communities. We need committed, enthusiastic folks to reach out to people and communities, fat and wide!! This is the perfect opportunity for folks who are excellent at networking, who enjoy social media, and who are ready to reach out and make specific contacts. We are especially seeking a liaison to transwomen/transfeminine/genderqueer folk. If you would like to become an Outreach Coordinator, please send an email to info at nolose dot com.
TRANS JUSTICE WORKING GROUP (a discrete project)
The Nolose board is looking for a small group of people to participate in a short-term working group to make recommendations for Nolose’s future. We particularly seek and support greater transwomen and transfeminine leadership. We aim to respond to transmisogyny at conferences and within the organization. See the call for participants for details and us at info at nolose dot com with your ideas or to join us.
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR (2-5 hours/month)
The Volunteer Coordinator helps to ensure that the organization wisely uses the valuable time of volunteers by identifying organizational needs, and then recruiting community members to fill those positions via the Nolose website and social media. The Volunteer Coordinator also helps ensure that volunteers have the resources they need to shine, and acts as the liaison between new volunteers and their committees/working groups, as well as between committees/working groups and the board. Please send an email to info at nolose dot com if you’re interested in becoming the Nolose Volunteer Coordinator.
ACCESSIBILITY COMMITTEE (less than 2 hours/month)
The Accessibility Committee oversees access issues and serves as a resource on issues of both access and disability justice throughout Nolose. This includes the running of the nonprofit and all Nolose programming.
Issues of access and accessibility include both logistical issues – getting people into the room, eliminating environmental and logistical barriers to participation of disabled people in Nolose programming and governance; and broader questions. Such as: how do we support the participation, and leadership, of disabled people and people with disabilities in all of their/our diversity in the Nolose community and intersectional fat queer activism? How do we go beyond the logistical issues of access to make a welcoming organization and community? How do we support fat queer disabled people in building power and community?
Committee members should expect to meet at least once a month (via phone conference, online chat, or some other method(s)), and more often leading up to a conference. If you would like to join the committee please email Sarah at sarah dot lynn dot doherty at gmail dot com.
COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR (4 hours/month)
If you love working with Nolose volunteers to create messaging that will lift up our fat queer and trans community, this is the position for you. The board and Nolose committees/working groups will share what the community needs to know, and you’ll work with the Social Media Coordinator, Website Content Creator, and Email Coordinator to spread the word. If that sounds like fun, email info at nolose dot com.
SOCIAL MEDIA COORDINATOR (less than 1 hour/week)
If you’re a whiz at social media and have the capacity to propose social media policies and procedures, and then develop and implement a social media plan for Nolose, we need you! Please email info at nolose dot com.
WEBSITE CONTENT CREATOR (3 hours/month)
Do you know WordPress inside and out? Are you a clear communicator? Do people listen when you speak and write? If so, we need your talents to keep Nolose’s website content fresh! You’ll write and publish content to the site, and will work with other members of the communications team to get our message out! Interested? Please email info at nolose dot com.
EMAIL COORDINATOR (2 hours/month)
If you write compelling copy and are a hotshot with Constant Contact, we need your expertise! You’ll write, design, upload, and schedule monthly emails to the Nolose community, while coordinating messaging with other members of the communications team. If that sounds like a good fit, email info at nolose dot com.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE (2-10 hours/month)
The Fundraising Committee is one of the most direct ways you can help Nolose and our community thrive. The Fundraising Committee brainstorms fundraising strategies, creates a fundraising plan to meet the organization’s revenue goals, coordinates with board members and community members organizing fundraising events on behalf of Nolose, and administers the organization’s fundraising seed money program. Please email info at nolose dot com to join!
SMALL PROJECTS ACROSS THE LAND (SPAL) (20-40 hours over two months)
SPAL offers small grants and seed money to queer and trans fat-positive projects. Nolose typically grants between $100 and $1,000 to smaller, local projects organized by community members. Proposals are evaluated by a team of community and board reviewers. The SPAL Review Team recommends proposals to the Nolose board that merit funding based on organizational priorities. Grant money can go towards securing space, paying for supplies or promotional materials, compensating performers, or other expenses. In the past, SPAL has provided grants to a hugely successful fat and queer conference in New York, a great roller skating party, a zine making party, and a burlesque show! If you are interested in joining the SPAL Admin Team or the SPAL Review Team, please send an email to spal at nolose dot org.
