Greetings to the NOLOSE announce list and thanks for the welcome.
 
I have long admired the work of the NOLOSE Board so I am excited to be a member. 
 
I have attended the last 3 NOLOSE conferences.  I think of them in terms of keynotes, not locations, so Nomi, Charlotte, and Heather.  I was born in Trinidad in the Caribbean, but I live in Toronto, Canada.  After working as a Mediator at the Information and Privacy Commissioner's Office since 2000, I decided to go back to law school.  I finished law school in May 2007, wrote my bar exams in the summer, and now work in the Legal Services Department at the Toronto District School Board practising Education law, labour and employment law, human rights law, and deal with various issues touching on privacy, family, criminal and torts.  I have served on many non-profit Boards in the past.  I was on the Board at the Griffin Centre, which delivers and supports programs for young adults who have been dually diagnosed (mental and physical disabilities).  I have also served on the Board at the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre/Multicultural Women Against Rape, chaired the Lesbian and Gay Community Appeal of Toronto (community funders), chaired the Board of Directors at Canada's oldest feminist theatre company, Nightwood Theatre and currently I sit on the Board of Directors at the Images Independent Film and Video Festival.  
 
NOLOSE is a new sort of Board experience for me, as it is in part virtual and covers at least one continent.  It is important and fun work for our fat, queer community and I for one, appreciate it so much so it was a privilege to be asked to participate.

I hate to send another email so soon, but I was remiss in not welcoming our new Board members.  Dang!  My apologies.

 

Please join me in welcoming Kim Paulus, GiGi Basanta and Joe Libin to the NOLOSE Board of Directors.  They bring a wealth of experience and knowlege, and we all look forward to getting to know them better.
