Hey there!
Hope you are all doing well. There is just 30 days left to apply for
funding for a local event. So far, we've got proposals from DC, Toronto and
the NYC area. Could your town be next? Send inquiries to me (
cristy at nolose.org) by November 1. Also get in touch with me if you are
interested in helping out with one of the existing projects.
The NOLOSE Board had a great in person meeting in September. There were a
few changes to the Board, including the sad news of Max Airborne's
resignation. :( But Max has agreed to stick around to take care of some
tasks for the organization, including continuing to be the conference
registration wrangler as well as doing some organizational volunteer
coordination. Max just rules! As you can tell, I have taken over the
nolose-announce list. On behalf of the Board, I would like to give Max our
heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all of her hard work and dedication to
NOLOSE.
The Officers of the Board have also changed around a bit. I am now your
President. I've always wanted to say that. Holly Hessinger is your Vice
President, Amanda Piasecki is your Treasurer. Danielle Terry, currently on
leave, is still secretary (though Devra did a damn fine job taking notes at
the in person meeting). So what does all of this mean? Yeah, not much. We
mostly need to have Board officers to be in compliance with tax law and
whatnot. But, I thought you might like to know.
A BIG FAT THANK YOU to the Fat Girl Flea Marketeers! Wow! A record
breaking year! The tally isn't entirely complete yet, but our financial
assistance pot has grown by leaps and bounds.

At the meeting, we got started on the planning for NOLOSE '08. We are
negotiating with venues, and trying to get a date ironed out. We are
looking at July or September. I will let you know as soon as we have the
date and place signed, sealed, and delivered. We also identified some
people needs! This is *your* conference, and we want you to be as involved
as you can be. We are looking for some help with the following:
- Outreach committee members! sell ads, swap ads, find places for us
to advertise!
- Graphic Designer-website, ads, cards, program booklet, etc.
- Fundraising committee members-help us raise money. There are a
million ways to do this, and most of them are pretty fun.
We also have some specific needs for volunteers at the conference. If you
or someone you know is a qualified ambulance driver, let us know! We hope
to be able to offer ambulatory services and we want a professional to
address our needs. Also, shy people: we want one or two of you to be the
Shy Person Coordinator (tm). Help us make sure we have activities and
events that appeal to the shy ones! Of course, the list goes on, but I'll
hold off until the conference gets a little closer.
