Hi there.
There is just one week to reserve your rooms at the special NOLOSE
conference rate, and after the 25th, they will release our held rooms to the
general public. There is a wedding at the Clarion while we are there, so
the rooms may disappear. To reserve your room at the special conference
rate, tell them you are with NOLOSE when you call to register.
And this note is from Naima Lowe, who is doing a special project at the
conference this year:
Hello Nolose,
I'm writing to let you know that I'm doing a workshop at the conference that
I would LOVE all of you to take part in.
Here is the deal, I am trying to make the Fattest Movie Ever! (Ok, actually,
probably more like a short documentary film that will mostly be seen by
queers, activists, art-fags and the like, but it is going to be awesome!)
I am a filmmaker (among other things) and I've been interested for a long
time in making a documentary film about NOLOSE/FA/FatQueers and some of its
wonderific, weird, complicated, loud mouthed, sexy, fashionable, pissed off,
fun, supportive, exciting people for a long long time.
In order to do this, I'm hoping to interview interested NOLOSE attendees
about the conference and Fat Activism/Acceptance in general. These
interviews will be conversational, low key, and driven by YOU and YOUR
interests, desires, hopes, dreams, and expectations about NOLOSE and
anything else we think of to talk about. I'm not going to be just wandering
around the conference shoving a camera in people's faces, don't worry!
Instead, I've been given two workshop slots, one at the beginning and one at
the end, that people can elect to attend.
If you're interested, please do drop by and see me. And bring a friend!
Onscreen interviews are often much more fun and comfortable if you're not
alone. I am interested in everyone's experiences, and would be especially
excited to have people who would commit to talking to me at the beginning
and the end of the conference.
More about me:
My name is Naima Lowe, and I live in Philadelphia, PA. I'm an overeducated,
black, queer, fat ,woman artist of many disciplines. I make money by
teaching college students about media, video production, and experimental
film. I make myself happy by making films, performances, and writings that
are usually overly complicated, because being overeducated, black, queer, a
woman and an artist is overly complicated. I really like collaborating with
people on projects, and I like to think of myself as relatively egalitarian
and ethical in my documentary practices, largely because I often center
myself and/or issues close to my heart within the work. If you'd like to
know more about what I do. I have a website: www.naimalowe.com
You can also feel free to email me at naimalowe at yahoo.com
thanks, yo. see you soon!
