Yahoo! Messenger: cristycardinal joined the conference.
Yahoo! Messenger: shira623 joined the conference.
hhessinger: yay
velluxuous666: you get kicked a lot,
velluxuous666: Cristy
shira623: oy vey, I really need a new computer
velluxuous666: so side bed seems less painful
velluxuous666: me, too shira
velluxuous666: argh
hhessinger: yahoo crashed, and took my transcript w it
cristycardinal: it is
cristycardinal: ama
shira623: me too
velluxuous666: shit, I didn't copy last conf
shira623: Actually, my whole computer crashed.
velluxuous666: 30 K in bank inclusive of reg
velluxuous666: 18 coming in
cristycardinal: that's fine. we haven't really said much yet.
shira623: Costs to menla around 30k, cost for our budget around 12k
cristycardinal: and that is the total budget, right?
shira623: I think.
cristycardinal: knowing that, I am freaking out much less
velluxuous666: 48k TB in bank
cristycardinal: TB?
velluxuous666: to be
cristycardinal: makes sense
velluxuous666: 42K TB spent
cristycardinal: well, 42K budgeted to be spent
shira623: That's why I said that with 48k we are covered. But we preferably wanted to end up with 15k afterwords. So that should be the goal but we are covered.
velluxuous666: we need a P&L to find out what has been paid already
velluxuous666: coming from Judy
velluxuous666: major donors will be solicited
velluxuous666: ad sales
shira623: What is the plan for onsite fund raising? Silent auction and big appeal?
cristycardinal: that seems to be all we can do
velluxuous666: yeah, raffle/bingo too risky
cristycardinal: can we sell NOLOSE merch?
velluxuous666: or have we fully decide that about raffle?
velluxuous666: merch sounds good
cristycardinal: we don't have to give 10%
hhessinger: right
shira623: just checking. I think doing a big appeal this year with clear explanation of our situation is good.
shira623: Yes we can do merch, do not have to pay 10%
shira623: I was never sure if we had totally decided about raffle.
cristycardinal: I have a fundraising idea that came from Jody Longobardo about selling personals/small messages in the program for a few bucks
velluxuous666: have you all seen in ebay how you can donate a percentage of your profits to a nonprofit
velluxuous666: if you sell?
cristycardinal: yes. we should encourage that
shira623: That idea has beensuggested before. It never went over, but we never really tried it.
velluxuous666: I could do an appeal on fatshionista
cristycardinal: we just need someone to push it
hhessinger: the ebay thing, we should target folks who already do ebay
hhessinger: i know a couple
velluxuous666: I am going to look at raffle law again
cristycardinal: I think we could do a 50/50
hhessinger: it's easy
hhessinger: and popular
velluxuous666: what is that?
shira623: The question is the law issue.
shira623: that is when you collect raffles and the winner gets 50% of the money.
cristycardinal: if we couldn't do that, we could do one for prizes
cristycardinal: we won't sell as many tickets though
shira623: Isnt that a regular raffle and so hits the legal issues ama has raised?
velluxuous666: I am looking right now
velluxuous666: I can send you the law
velluxuous666: need some time to interpret though
cristycardinal: did everybody leave this time?
shira623: no, still here. Did you leave?
hhessinger: here
velluxuous666: i am here, looking at raffle law
cristycardinal: no
hhessinger: ama's thinking
cristycardinal: i see
velluxuous666: Oh, score!
cristycardinal: yes?
shira623: ??
shira623: waiting with baited breath
velluxuous666: "Charitable orgs that have net profits of less than 30K in a calendar year
velluxuous666: may in lieu of a license
velluxuous666: submit a verified statement attesting to that fact
velluxuous666: we can submit this form
cristycardinal: yes
velluxuous666: instead of getting a license
cristycardinal: yes we can
velluxuous666: okay!
cristycardinal: is it a form or a letter
velluxuous666: form VS-1
cristycardinal: can you do the letter, or should I?
velluxuous666: we have to get net proceeeds first
velluxuous666: it looks like
velluxuous666: so we do it after
hhessinger: cool
cristycardinal: okay that's cool, let's not forget to do it
shira623: yeah
velluxuous666: I would love if you guys could look at this, too
cristycardinal: okay
shira623: email it
hhessinger: yes
velluxuous666: they seem maybe to need a registration number
velluxuous666: ahead of time
velluxuous666: which we might have to apply for
velluxuous666: this is different than a license
velluxuous666: will email
cristycardinal: okay
cristycardinal: that's good info to have
velluxuous666: wait, are we incorporated in ny
velluxuous666: ?
shira623: Cristy, unrelated - what is the status on the nonprofit tax examption.
shira623: cristy are you still there?
cristycardinal: well, we will be. I got it sent back to me again
cristycardinal: I think the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing
cristycardinal: in albany
shira623: Again? These people are so frustrating.
cristycardinal: you think?
cristycardinal: so, iam going to do it again
cristycardinal: and hopefully it will work
shira623: Cristy, I cant commend you enough for being willing to deal with this!!!!!!!
hhessinger: yeah, this has been a circus, thank you cristy
cristycardinal: it's cool
shira623: what about our tax exemption status. I am worried about menla
cristycardinal: we are tax exempt FEDERALLY. it has not much to do with NY state
shira623: Are we still incorp in NJ, and did we ever get the proper form?
velluxuous666: yeah, thanks cristy
shira623: Great.
velluxuous666: i have done incorporation before and it is a nightmare
cristycardinal: that form is only good for NJ businesses
cristycardinal: it's irrelevant
shira623: So the letter we had before should be fine for menla?
velluxuous666: 501c3 should be fine for menla
velluxuous666: I think
cristycardinal: yes.
shira623: great.
shira623: Shall we move on to FA?
cristycardinal: yes
hhessinger: next in plan-- stefanie and corporate sponsors...
cristycardinal: please
hhessinger: oops
cristycardinal: holly-do you mean to talk about tonight?
cristycardinal: or just in general
velluxuous666: devra and I and I think cristy have talked to her?
velluxuous666: true?
hhessinger: for us to present to board at in person mtg re fundraisin
cristycardinal: stephanie?
velluxuous666: she is studying for the bar
velluxuous666: maybe just me and devra
velluxuous666: she is not available til it's over
cristycardinal: and not able to help us right now, but will soon
velluxuous666: but is excited to work on corp fundraising later
hhessinger: ah, so no eileen fisher in august?
cristycardinal: oh yes, I was in on that convo
velluxuous666: i don't think so
hhessinger: ok
shira623: FA?
shira623: Is everyone there?
hhessinger: i
hhessinger: here
velluxuous666: hello
velluxuous666: yes
shira623: cristy?
velluxuous666: so shira you're thinking we might should continue to offer fa
velluxuous666: to get some more money
velluxuous666: right?
cristycardinal: yes
cristycardinal: sorry, I got a phone call
shira623: Well, I think we should at least offer the extra 1000 that was budgetted and then see.
velluxuous666: that sounds good to me
cristycardinal: I think we should stop there
shira623: Danielle, am I right that there is an extra 1000 we havent spent?
cristycardinal: yes
shira623: Ok, so let's do that tonight and then stop.
hhessinger: and you have 20 apps?
velluxuous666: kay
cristycardinal: not from what was budgeted, but what we originall y spent
shira623: Oh, so actually we have spent the whole budget because we had gone about 1000 over.
cristycardinal: 15 new apps and 6 people on the waiting list
cristycardinal: correct shira
shira623: should we still do it?
shira623: I say yes.
shira623: But stop there.
cristycardinal: it sounds like the whole board said to go ahead
velluxuous666: so we are doing $1000 beyond the extra budget
shira623: no, basically we had budgetted 5000 for fa. We offered out 6000 and so far 5000 has been used.
velluxuous666: cool
velluxuous666: sounds good
shira623: Ok, that's it for fa i think.
shira623: what was next?
cristycardinal: hold on let me look at the spreadsheet
shira623: Does anyone have the transcript of the beginning of this meeting where we listed the agenda?
cristycardinal: we've offered 5K and spent 4K
velluxuous666: nope
velluxuous666: lost in crash
shira623: Oh, sorry, I had the nubers wrong. Okay, but sill same thing, 1000 above budget.
cristycardinal: cash flow, FA, onsite fundraising, indemnity
hhessinger: and what was FA budget?
shira623: 4000
shira623: or so Cristy is implying.
shira623: I dont remember and cant access it while doing chat.
cristycardinal: not implying, it came from the spreadsheet
shira623: Great.
shira623: Which spreadsheet?
hhessinger: so the extra 1000 is from the FA budget itself?
cristycardinal: the fa spreadsheet. I never said anything about the budget, I was talking about what was spent
shira623: NO, basically we had budgetted 4000 for FA, but when we made offers we offered 5000
cristycardinal: yes
hhessinger: so where does another 1000 come from, just clarifying
shira623: I need to check the overall conference budget, but I remember that we discussed having offered an extra 1000 so I am assuming that the budget was 4000.
shira623: Basically the extra 1000 gets added to the budget.
cristycardinal: we know
shira623: Holly?
cristycardinal: charlotte says AAAAAA ah eeeeeawwww
hhessinger: yup
velluxuous666: okay
velluxuous666: should we move on?
shira623: Tell Charlotte I miss her.
cristycardinal: cool
shira623: Yes, lets move on.
hhessinger: yup
cristycardinal: okay then, indemnity
velluxuous666: right so I spoke to shanti
velluxuous666: two days ago
velluxuous666: she was supposed to email indemnity
velluxuous666: she hasn't yet
velluxuous666: that's all I got
velluxuous666: will follow up mon
velluxuous666: does anyone have her email
velluxuous666: so I can harass her there, too?
cristycardinal: I love you ama
cristycardinal: just sayin
shira623: When we first saw that they were having everyone sign and indemnity waiver, we taled about having our own too.
velluxuous666: backatcha
shira623: Emal for Shanti is...
velluxuous666: we might should have our own
cristycardinal: right
velluxuous666: but I need to find out what there's is
velluxuous666: before I write one
shira623: shanti at tibethouse.org
velluxuous666: their's
velluxuous666: okay
shira623: ok.
velluxuous666: will write to her and bcc you all
velluxuous666: I can draft our indemnity
velluxuous666: but we might want to think asking one lawyer in the community
velluxuous666: to look at it
velluxuous666: think about
velluxuous666: can't type anymore
velluxuous666: bleah
velluxuous666: think about asking one lawyer
shira623: Do you think it needs to be a local person?
velluxuous666: ideally
velluxuous666: like bevin
velluxuous666: ?
hhessinger: who is the right kind of lawyer?
velluxuous666: ugh
velluxuous666: I don't know
cristycardinal: bevin could at least point us in the right direction if she can't do it
cristycardinal: she knows people
velluxuous666: true
velluxuous666: good idea
hhessinger: right
cristycardinal: agrees
shira623: sounds good
velluxuous666: i will ask zoe to ask her
velluxuous666: or if we can all remember
velluxuous666: for double-blind flakiness prevention
cristycardinal: agrees
cristycardinal: sweet
shira623: I;m really taken with the term double-blind flakiness prevention
shira623: clause I mean
shira623: phrase?
hhessinger: so we're asking bevin to look over our indemnification waiver for nolose?
cristycardinal: yes
hhessinger: ok
shira623: yep
velluxuous666: i feel that we should build it into our organizational infrastructure: double-blind flakiness prevention
hhessinger: excellent
shira623: I agree.
cristycardinal: so, what do you all think about selling small personal messages in the program for a few bucks?
velluxuous666: oh, I like it!
cristycardinal: oh, and I agree
shira623: Great.
cristycardinal: okay, will talk to Devra about it for the program.
hhessinger: it's cute
shira623: I think we have completed the agenda.
cristycardinal: also, D and I might do a matching program of donations
cristycardinal: haven't decided yet
velluxuous666: oh wait, can we go over major donors again
cristycardinal: yes
velluxuous666: so I can get cristy info
velluxuous666: from database?
shira623: Leah Strock, Becca Widom
shira623: Miriam Berg/Nancy Summer
cristycardinal: miriam, summer, leah, becca, zack and barbara
shira623: Barb and Zack (dont know last names)
velluxuous666: barbara who?
velluxuous666: barb and zack, okay
hhessinger: cristy, a matching program?
cristycardinal: yes, matching all donations for a periiod of 30 days up to a certain amount
hhessinger: you personally?
cristycardinal: yes
shira623: Wow, that would be fantastic.
hhessinger: that'd be great, and also
hhessinger: maybe something for a corp sponsor to do too?
velluxuous666: yeah, a lot already have matching programs
cristycardinal: yes indeed. we might do it at the conference
velluxuous666: that are employee-driven
shira623: Depending on how much you guys want to do, it might entice the big donors.
cristycardinal: I think I might do it separate from the big donors
cristycardinal: I want to encourage the small donors to give what they can
shira623: whatever you like. Just a thought.
velluxuous666: I think that's smart, Cristy
cristycardinal: it's more attractive if they think their $5 is really $10
velluxuous666: totally
hhessinger: yeah, parallel tracks, not one or the other
cristycardinal: right
shira623: great.
cristycardinal: okay, are we good? moving on to an FA only committee meeting?
velluxuous666: sounds good to me
shira623: good for me.
cristycardinal: I will switch with Danielle
hhessinger: ok, i go now!
hhessinger: love to all
shira623: bye holly
velluxuous666: bye hhh
cristycardinal: bye from cc
shira623: Good night cc
Yahoo! Messenger: hhessinger has left the conference.
