[Nolose-outreach] Getting moving on outreach

Hi, all--
Sorry, limited time to deal with a lot of details here lately--so am
cranking this out in a somewhat disorganized way just to get back to
folks so things can keep moving--
If ads can go out in May, that would definitely be better--as June
probably actually is too late for some publications. Getting deadlines
is kind of key in the r&d... some issues come out in July or Aug., and
that's great, too, but the deadlines are always earlier.
The other consideration is that we don't have a giant ad budget, and
some (like Curve and Bitch) have skyrocketed and are quite expensive and
possibly of our range. Good to ask for nonprofit rates and ad
exchanges. We have $1000 maximum for advertising. Which is not a lot, and
yet it is also a small conference. This is where the online posting and
cross-posting (using a graphic/logo is preferable where allowed) is key.
--In terms of local-area print ads, I think it's much more bang for the
buck/higher priority in the region (Massachusetts/NE). But free listings
in local rags/calendars/online orgs all over are great.
--We definitely spent more for 05 than 06, since we were capping
attendance at our retreat and spent less on outreach. Our bigger $ went
to Bitch, Color Lines, Lesbian Connection and we also had various ads in
conference journals like Trans Health, Femme Conf. (I think?), a gender
conference at NYU. We also had 2 experiences of submitting ads and
payment to conferences and having the ads returned ignored, which may be
due to a fluke, or may have been deliberate.
Attached is the Outreach Budget from 06, which includes info on ads from
05-06 toward the bottom (including direct contacts and now outdated
price info).
Thanks, ad people, for running with it!
Oh, and Max, yes, it is just the 5 of us on this list (you, Sarah, me,
Zoe, Joe).
xoxo
