If you have a fabulous idea for creating or furthering radical fat queer and trans community in your area but need a financial jumpstart to get your project off the ground, Nolose is ready to help. Please note: Nolose is unable to fund projects outside of the US.
Maybe you’re thinking, “Gosh, would I love to have a local fat positive event, and I’ve got this great idea!” or “I would love to get some work done on this book/video/performance about awesome fat people!” or “There’s an event happening in my community for LGBTQ+ folks, BIPOC, Disabled folks, or another marginalized group, and I’d really like to contribute something about fat people to this gathering.” If so, PLEASE apply for a SPAL (Small Projects Across the Land) grant!
Nolose is offering grants of $100-$1,000 to support projects, within the US, that expand the reach of fat queer and trans activism. In past years, SPAL projects have included day conferences in New York and Boston, a roller-skating party in Philadelphia, a fat clothing flea in Austin, and Flabulous!, an evening of drag, cabaret, and burlesque in San Francisco.
We are looking for projects that:
- Support Nolose’s goals and mission
- Provide resources, access and/or voice to groups, within the US, that have historically been marginalized within fat activist communities and to under-resourced regions with less visible fat activist communities.
- Explore and celebrate intersectionalities
- Are challenging, weird, empowering and FUN!
Applications will be reviewed by the Nolose SPAL Review Team and funding recommendations made to the Nolose Board of Directors based on the criteria outlined in the application form. Decisions will be announced in late December 2020. Complete the form below or email your answers to spal at nolose dot org by October 15, 2020. We look forward to hearing about your awesome plans!
The Nolose SPAL review team includes community volunteers as well as board members. If you’re not planning to apply but would like to help review SPAL applications and make recommendations for funding, we’d love the help! It’ll take about 15 hours across October and November 2020. To volunteer, email spal at nolose dot org by September 30, 2020.
